Why are Cradle of Filth classified as Gothic Metal?

Same as my last question. I like some COF songs…don't call me a poser. Yes they include alot of gothic literature in their lyrics and they have the whole stereotypical goth look. I just call them "extreme metal" They are more often considered Extreme Metal but alot of poser goth followers like them
